Each spring, Brandywine Ballet mails invitations to over 225 area schools and 60 senior communities announcing the upcoming season's Student/Senior Matinees. These matinees serve as important arts education field trips for over 1500 students from as many as 20 different Greater Philadelphia area schools each year, as well as numerous home school families, and seniors. Admission to Student/Senior Matinees is significantly discounted in order to make the arts more accessible. In addition to lowered ticket prices, Brandywine Ballet provides attending students with a performance program the day of the event, and curriculum packets in advance of the event, which include programmatic details, general ballet technique and history, and educational games. During intermission, ballet dancers and performers come out into the audience for meet and greet, and a Q & A session. Brandywine Ballet has also implemented a new blog, which provides students with an opportunity to interact and discuss the ballet on-line with Brandywine Ballet dancers, their peers and instructors. All Student/Senior Matinees take place at the Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall on the campus of West Chester University. The collegiate environment in which Brandywine Ballet's performances take place reinforce the educational impact of the program, shining a positive light on institutions of higher education for students at an important and impressionable age.
